If so, don't scrape or sand off paint that might be lead-based. It may release dangerous lead particles into the air. Instead, heed the advice from the National Paint & Coatings Association (www.paint.org): Layer a primer directly on top of old paint to seal it, then use an eco-friendly one over the primer. The EPA estimates that indoor air is 20 times more polluted than outdoor air, even in industrialized cities.
